DARK LUCK
What if, hundreds of years from now, scientists invent a time machine? Wouldn't it be nice if your great-grandkid used it to send you a winning lottery combination that would make you a multimillionaire?
After winning a four-hundred-million dollar jackpot with the numbers he received from the future, Ted Duplass is as happy as can be. He buys a house in an upscale neighborhood, a luxury car, a Rolex watch, and a whole bunch of other things he couldn't afford before. Life is great.
The fun stops when Ted learns that he's going to be murdered by the end of the year. Fortunately, he knows the name of the killer.
The question is how much luck does he have left?
What Doesn't Kill You A Suspense Collection eBook Tim Kizer
What a pleasure it was to stumble on a new writer with both a keen eye for suspense writing and an inventive and original way of crafting a compelling story. Until a few days ago I'd not read anything by Tim Kizer, but after reading his collection of suspense stories I'd give anything Tim writes a read. One of the things I have learned over the years is that some people have a knack for writing suspense and some don't. Just like some people can tell a funny story and some can't. For instance, Stephen King can write suspense or horror, and I have enjoyed some of King's lesser known collections of stories immensely. What I pleasantly discovered in reading Tim Kizer's latest collection is the same "knack" for writing an intriguing suspense story that sucks you in, just as I have found in some of King's best suspense stories. Just when you think you know what is about to happen, Tim takes a slight turn in an unexpected direction which is delightful.
My favorite story in this collection was Dark Luck, about a man who comes up with an ingenious plan to use his own progeny and the "probable" invention of a time machine in the future to win the lottery in his present life. What an inventive concept, I thought. But then Tim takes the concept of sending messages through time and the temptation of changing one's fate just a step further. I loved this story and the dilemma the main character faced, largely created by the crazy situation he set up with his novel idea to win the lottery. This story alone made the book worth the price for me, and I am looking forward to reading more work by Tim in the future.
If you like suspense and solid, tight writing, you will find this collection worthwhile. The stories in the collection are great for reading on a commute or in a single sitting at home when you want some entertainment but don't have the time to delve into a longer piece. One warning though: These stories are hard to put down once you start reading them. I am very much looking forward to reading Tim's suspense novel he is currently writing.

What Doesn't Kill You A Suspense Collection eBook Tim Kizer Reviews
A collection of odd quirky short stories.
I have to start out my review by saying that this was one of the best story collections I have read in quite a while. Tim Kizer has done an amazing job of crafting three, stand alone, novelettes that were suspenseful and impossible to put down. The first story, Dark Luck, was so well written and entertaining that I was sure it was going to be the only good story in the trio.
Fortunately both Scorned and The Dreamer were great reads. The Dreamer was surreal and thought provoking while Scorned was just plain terrifying. Scorned started out as a satisfying (in my feminine opinion) revenge thriller, but there was a wonderful twist that made me reevaluate (and re-read) the entire story. I HIGHLY recommend giving "What Doesn't Kill You" a try especially if you enjoy thrillers that stick with you for a while after reading the final page.
